On the 7th of December Teesside University will be hosting the Big Student Sleepout. Started by the charity CEO Sleepout, participants will be spending one night without a roof over their head to raise money for charity.
Teesside is the first university to host the event, before it spreads nationwide. Students involved are aiming to raise £200 each, and so it could be considered one of the biggest fundraisers of the year.
The CEO Sleepout was originally started in 2013, but this new event targeted at students aims to inspire the leaders of the future to have a little more empathy for those in less fortunate positions.
Money raised from the event will go to a variety of charities, from stocking food banks to supporting local causes.
Participants will be sleeping out from 8pm to 6am, and will be greeted with a bacon sandwich when they wake up.
Bianca Robinson, National Coordinator of CEO Sleepout UK, has organised the campaign and is supporting the students on the night.
Bianca has participated in numerous sleep outs already, and will be joining in with the Middlesbrough Sleepout on the 12th November as well.
In the past, the Middlesbrough Sleepout has raised over £123,000 for the Middlesbrough Philanthropic Foundation.
About the sleep out, Bianca said “When you wake up in the morning, you do have more of an understanding of what other people go through.”
“This is about the next generation of bosses, because that’s what you are, going out into the world with empathy for those in companies that might be at the bottom of the pay scale and might just need a little bit more help.”
Students already signed up have all created a JustGiving page to help them reach that golden £200 each, which gives those that can’t join in with the actual event the opportunity to contribute.
Alternatively, if you would like to get involved you can sign up online or go along to the information event in Teesside University Students Union on the 6th November at 12.

Biography
I have a passion for creating high quality written work about a wide variety of subjects, although my focus for the last few years has been particularly on outdoor sports and lifestyle.
I currently write for ThirtySquare, about the world of surfing and body surfing, and Welan, an outdoor clothing company. With them both, I have fantastic business relations and use my 6 years of experience with outdoor sports to write eloquent, engaging content to maximize their audience. I have a heavy interest in adventure sports, and am aiming to bring that love and passion to the media industry – in the hopes to entertain, educate and to encourage more people to get involved.

Employment, Work Experience & Volunteering
For the last five months I have been working as a freelance adventure writer, with a specific focus on surfing and sustainability. During that time I have had the opportunity to work with multiple clients to produce emotional and explanatory pieces that will best suit their audience. Examples of these can be found within my portfolio.
I am also currently volunteering with the media team of UKLSG, the UK Lifeguard Solidarity Group, to create more media coverage about the concerning lack of lifeguarded beaches in the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic – and the impact it will have on both RNLI staff and the public.
