The UEFA Champions League draw happened earlier today, with some mouth-watering ties for the round-of-16, most notably Champions League leaders Liverpool drawing a white-hot PSG who come of a 10-0 aggregate victory over fellow French side Brest.
There is also a Madrid derby as Real take on Atlético in a match which promises to be fierce as both teams have a rich history and will want nothing less than to be knocked out by their city rivals.
The other two English teams remaining in the competition are Aston Villa and Arsenal after Manchester City’s exit at the hands of Real Madrid, the fifth time the teams have met in the competition in five years.
Villa and the Gunners will both travel for their first leg ties, to Club Brugge and PSV respectively, with both matches expected to be tight affairs after impressive displays in the league phase from all four teams.
Elsewhere in the draw, Bayern Munich will face fellow German side Bayer Leverkusen and Barcelona will have a rematch against Benfica after their nine-goal-thriller in the league phase in which the Spanish side emerged victorious after an impressive comeback from being 3-1 down. After what we’ve seen can be produced from these two teams, many neutrals will be excited for this one.
Finally, Italian champions Inter, will face Dutch side Feyenoord and underperformers Borussia Dortmund will face French side Lille.
Here are TUXtra’s own Jim’s predictions for the ties:
Bayern Munich > Bayer Leverkusen
Barcelona > Benfica
Inter > Feyenoord
Real Madrid > Atlético Madrid
Arsenal > PSV Eindhoven
PSG > Liverpool
Lille > Borussia Dortmund
Club Brugge > Aston Villa
