Thousands of runners take on the Middlesbrough Half Marathon

Thousands of sporty Teessiders and runners from across the country took to the streets on Sunday for the Middlesbrough Half Marathon.

Almost 2,700 runners took part in the 13.1-mile race on a circular route through Albert Park, past the Riverside Stadium, along the Tees and finishing back at Centre Square.

Roads around the town centre were closed while the race took place.

The event kicked off early in the morning, with participants eagerly lining up at the starting line.

Friends and family members gathered to cheer on their loved ones, waving banners and holding motivational signs.

The crowd made sure the energy was high, with chants of encouragement along the route, boosting the spirits of every runner.

As each participant approached the finish line, they were met with cheers and applause from the enthusiastic crowd.

Douglas Musson finished first in just 1hr 6min 7sec, with Jasmine Clarke the fastest woman clocking 1hr 18mins 22sec.

Speaking to one of the runners, she shared how the marathon went for her and what the support from the crowd meant for her.

Laura, 30, a teacher, said: “It was brutal but so rewarding, I managed to complete it in one hour, forty-three minutes which I was really proud of.

“The support from the crowd really helped keep me motivated and pushed me to keep going.”
