I am exhibiting my final year project, which is centered around complex creature animation.
My time at university has helped me realise that my passion within animation is to work on creatures, so I chose to animate two challenging shots in order to further develop my knowledge of creature animation.
The first piece I am exhibiting is a fight animation, which focuses on complicated character interaction between two fantasy monsters.
My second piece involves a wolf traversing through the woods, focusing heavily on realistic movement and body mechanics for a quadruped creature.
Through undertaking this project, I have improved my workflow to allow myself to work faster without sacrificing creativity. I’ve learnt the importance of planning before diving straight into animating, and how thorough planning makes your life much easier.
Course: BA (Hons) Computer Character Animation
Biography: I’m a former Teesside Student now working with Creative Assembly as a Trainee Animator. I have a real love for creature animation which I started to discover at the start of my second year at uni. I’ve always been a big fan of monster movies and the horror/sci-fi genre, so when I realised I could make big scary monsters move and get paid for it, creature animation became a no-brainer for me. I’ve been able to really try and specialise in this area whilst studying, and thanks to my tutors and the guidance from industry animators, I’ve been fortunate enough to secure the trainee position I’m working in now.
When I’m not animating, I like to spend my time playing games or self-teaching myself how to play the piano (although I’m not very good at it… yet).
I also watch way too much Harry Potter.
I’m always looking to make new connections so please feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn!
