Project’s Client
Restarting Hearts in Northallerton is a small charity setup by a team of community minded individuals. It aims to save lives:
- Significantly increasing the number of Community Public Access Defibrillators in Northallerton.
- Raise awareness of defibrillators, their locations and how they can be used by any member of the public.
- Raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and the basics of CPR and resuscitation in the event of a cardiac arrest.
In the last year the charity has more than trebled the number of public access defibrillators in Northallerton, purchasing each defibrillator that cost around £1000 and the weatherproof heated cabinets costing around £500. The charity is also planning to expand to the whole of North Yorkshire, with the support of the North Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Project’s Goal
The goal of the project was to create a series of deliverables that improved the charities current system, data storage and provide charity staff with a reporting dashboard. The deliverables also would attempt to resolve any key points of failure within the charities current system, identified by the charity owner, which would help to accommodate for the charities upcoming expansion to the whole of Yorkshire. These deliverables included:
- A Staff reporting app, which improved the charities ability to manage its defibrillators and its volunteer.
- Defibrillator checking app that gave volunteers the ability to log when they had checked a defibrillator and update any service information.
- Analysis app, which was developed to improve the resilience and availability of the defibrillator checking app.
