A university student has spoken about being caught up in travel chaos caused by Storm Babet at the weekend.
Storm Babet lashed the UK for most of last weekend hitting areas in the North of England and Scotland
There has been over 350 flood warnings issues over the past few days and three danger to life warnings issued in Scotland.
1250 properties were reported to have been flooded and rivers around the country burst their banks.
Flooding from Storm Babet could last for days, the Environment Agency has warned and across England 116 flood warnings remain in place – including in the East Midlands and along the River Severn.
Four people are known to have died in the floods, while residents of hundreds of homes have been evacuated.
Business student Sophie Metcalf was caught up in the aftermath of the storm while trying to travel from London back to the North-East on Saturday.
The storm caused trains from the capital to be cancelled leaving Sophie and her friends stranded.
Train company LNER made the decision to run very limited service to the north of England and then eventually the police made the decision to shut down the London King’s Cross railway station due to over crowding and lack of crowd control.
Train companies reportedly told passengers that they where advised not to travel Thursday and Friday but when talking to the passengers may said they never received this warning.
This caused many more problems as travellers who where planning on going home on Saturday where forced to make a decision to stay over an extra night or pay for a seven hour bus journey.
