Queen Elizabeth II has died aged 96.
The Queen passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon at her beloved summer home in Balmoral.
An official statement was made by Buckingham Palace on Thursday:
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”.
Senior royals gathered at her Scottish estate earlier on Thursday.
Buckingham Palace announced the Queen’s doctors were concerned about her health and that she had been put under medical supervision.
Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales is now King.
Clarence House has confirmed that King Charles will be formally known as King Charles III.
His Majesty the King released an official statement on the death of his beloved mother Queen Elizabeth II:
“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
We mourn profoundly the passing of the cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.
During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held”.
The Royal family and nation are now in mourning.

President Zelenskyy of Ukraine is among the world leaders who have paid tribute.
President Zelenskyy tweeted:
“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On behalf of the people, we extend sincere condolences to the @RoyalFamily, the entire United Kingdom and the Commonwealth over this irreparable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you”.
Queen Elizabeth II recently celebrated her Platinum Jubilee.
She was the longest serving British monarch, reigning for 70 years.
People flocked to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
22,000 people attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in London, with millions watching from home and many other people attending events throughout the country.
Queen Elizabeth II was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
