Middlesbrough are currently on a four match losing streak and desperately need a result against Bristol in order to stay in the playoff race.
January signings Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Iling-Junior have yet to register a goal contribution for Boro and have so far failed to replace the impact of Doak and Latte Lath.
The defensive issues have also been prevalent on this losing run, conceding nine goals in their last four games.
Middlesbrough are currently in 11th place however they have a game in hand which will see them rise to seventh if they win.
In his pre-match press conference, manager Michael Carrick spoke of his team’s poor run of form.
He said: “There’s a natural feeling of wanting to do better and needing to do better and that’s from all of us.
“It tells you a lot about somebody when you’re going through a time when you’re tested and it’s not going to plan, individually and even more as a group.
“The boys are in it, they are living it and there is no getting away from it.”
Bristol have been a tough opponent for Boro as they have lost their last three league games versus the south-western side.
Tonight’s game will be Tommy Conway’s first game back at Ashton gate after his £4.5 million move to Middlesbrough from Bristol, in the summer.
