A new multi-million-pound building has now been opened for students from the health and science subjects.
Bios has taken 18 months from conception to completion.
The new facility is situated between The Curve and The Centuria buildings offering state-of-the-art resources for aspiring scientists in the future.
Courses ranging from biosciences to sport & exercise will be taught in this innovative new development.
Bios has four floors of cutting-edge facilities for the science and clinical subjects which will transform the way health provision is delivered at Teesside through digital and immersive learning.
On the ground floor a new café, Vita, has opened offering a taste of Italy on Teesside. It serves fresh pasta, sauces, sandwiches and coffee available to students and staff looking for a new place to eat.
Professor Tim Thompson, Dean of the School of Health & Life Sciences, he shares his views on this latest development.
“Bios is a new learning and teaching building, filled with practical and flexible learning spaces, all underpinned with digital infrastructure and lab equipment,” He said.
“It has opened to support our students and staff by giving them more advanced and exciting spaces to work in.
“It has allowed is to upgrade our current facilities and provide new spaces for new courses too.
“New and current students will be able to use the building. It’s been built for all of us.”
Some of the new facilities Bios is offering include practical spaces, labs, mock hospital suites, operating theatres and simulated living spaces.
And the super lab can fit up to 120 students for practical sessions.
So, was this project worth the wait? In the words from Tim Thompson himself: “Definitely yes. It’s been a challenging project because of the scale and complexity, but it is wonderful now that it’s done.”
Teesside University has an outstanding reputation for healthcare provision, with students going on to successful careers within the regional and national healthcare sector.
Bios is the latest development to be completed as part of Teesside University’s ambitious Campus Masterplan to enhance the campus and facilities and provide the very best student and learning experience.
