On the Rise: Redcar Athletic

Redcar Athletic are flying in the Northern League Division One.

The Steelmen top of the league with over 100 goals scored and so far only six losses after 38 games.

The club has experienced some disruption off the pitch this season, with the announcement of the departure of previous chairman Dale Smith in January. But while a new structure is being implemented, the changes have not affected the results on the pitch.

This season, Redcar Athletic find themselves top of the Northern League Division One after 38 games and with only four games left and a six point advantage over second place they look set to win the league and be promoted to the Northern League for the first time ever and be four promotions off the Football League.

Ashley Stone, the Head of Media at Redcar Athletic spoke to us about how the season has been so far: “This season has been brilliant from minute one. The team’s been fantastic.

“I know we pretty much, without a shadow of a doubt, have the best team in the league and it’s shown. The togetherness on the pitch and even the feel around the sidelines especially since January has just been fantastic.”

The players have been in fine goalscoring form, scoring 101 in the league so far while only conceding 23. This is thanks to players like Oscar Fletcher, with 20 goals, and Bradley Fewster, with 28.

Fletcher especially has been a consistent star for The Steelmen. When asked about star players this season Ashley said: “Oscar Fletcher has probably been our key player this season.

“He played for us before but he left to go to West Auckland, but he came back at the beginning of the season. He’s useful, he’s young, he’s got bags of energy, but his passing range is absolutely unbelievable, and he’s been key for us in the midfield.

“When he first played for us, it took him about 20 games to get a goal but now he gets a goal every game or every two games. He’s got the most assists in the club. He’s been crucial in that midfield.”

With only four games remaining this season, now’s the perfect time to catch a game at Green Lane and back The Steelmen to a potential league title at the end of this season.

You can catch Redcar Athletic at Green Lane, Redcar, TS10 3RW.
