Preston 2 Middlesbrough 1: Creative but sloppy Boro gift Preston late winner

 

Preston beat Middlesbrough 2-1 after a sloppy mistake gave Emil Riis a late winner.

 

Middlesbrough started the game brightly, finding success through Ben Doak crosses.

 

 

 

 

However, top scorer Latte Lath came off with an injury which hurt Middlesbrough’s momentum. Marcus Forss replaced him.

 

Stefán Teitur Þórðarson opened the scoring for Preston, cutting inside from the left and whipping it past Tom Glover.

 

Into the second half, Delano Burgzorg levelled the game for Middlesbrough. Ben Doak flicked the ball through to Dutch winger, who, after a a slick chop turn followed by a ball roll, found himself in a one-on-one with keeper Freddie Woodman, where he coolly slotted it into the net.

 

A few minutes later, Ben Doak cut inside from the left and struck a venomous shot towards the bottom right corner but the Preston goalkeeper made a great save. 

 

Ryan Giles was subbed on for Neto Borges late in the second half.

 

Emil Riis scored to regain the lead for Preston after a sloppy move from Middlesbrough on 78 minutes.

 

Middlesbrough fall from 5th to 6th after the result but will have chance to bounce back against Sunderland on the February 3.
