Royal Visit: King and Queen bring excitement to Middlesbrough

King Charlies III and Queen Camilla were in Middlesbrough yesterday on a day that will go in the history books for the town.

The day marks more than three decades since the town was last visited by a reigning monarch.

The King and Queen began their day with a visit to Middlesbrough’s International Centre, where they joined a knife crime education workshop with officers from Cleveland Police and young people from the King’s Trust.

Afterwards, the royal couple went on separate engagements, with the King heading to SeAH Wind’s XXXL offshore turbine base factory in South Bank and the Queen joining a celebration of the National Literacy Trust work in Middlesbrough’s Town Hall alongside 750 schoolchildren.

The visit ended with a chance to speak to more members of the local community who had come out to greet the couple during a brief walk in the town centre.

Hundreds of members of the public had been waiting for the opportunity to meet the King and Queen from the early hours of the morning.

The community was very excited to welcome them to Middlesbrough.

During the walk, the King and Queen personally gave a birthday card to Rona Grafton, who was celebrating her 100th birthday, while other people gave the couple gifts, including flowers and handwritten cards.
