Most Boro fans would agree that Ben Doak has been hugely impressive this season. But even the biggest fans of the young Scot may be surprised to learn just how influential he has been.

A new stat has come to light to show that his impact on Boro could be worth as much as 20 points and 13 places in the crowded Championship table.

Middlesbrough have averaged 1.66 points per game in Doak’s 21 starts – but just 1.1 points per game in the 11 matches he has missed.

Doak’s starting average applied to the whole season would have netted Boro 58-59 points, enough for 5th place in the league and a play-off charge.

Boro’s average of 1.1 points per game without the Liverpool loanee would have earned them just 38-39 points. That would see Boro 18th in the league and fighting in a relegation battle.

The Scottish international is currently out with a thigh injury and has recently undergone surgery. He has returned to Liverpool for his rehabilitation.

Middlesbrough fans will be hoping he can return before the end of the season, especially if it extends into May with a play-off position.
