Teesside Lions win their last home game of the season in style

Teesside Lions emphatically beat Cardiff Mets 78-57 in their last home game of the season.

The first quarter was a tense affair with Mehki Henry and Brendan Patrick finding success for the Lions, on drives to the basket. The quarter ended 22-17 for the Lions.

In the second quarter,  both sides went toe to toe. Teesside found success on three-point shots, in response Cardiff were successful from layups and the free throw line. The Lions maintained their lead and finished the half 37-31 up.

In the third quarter, the Lions excelled at both ends of the court, forcing misses from the Archers and looking very dynamic offensively. Mehki Henry dominated defensively, displaying fast reflexes on several steals. By the end of the quarter the Lions had stretched their lead to 60-41.

In the fourth quarter, the Lions were able to maintain their sizeable lead. It was a comfortable final quarter, with the Lions winning the game with an impressive 78-57 score line – a good final performance for the Lions in front of their home fans on Teesside.

On his team’s performance, Teesside Lions Head Coach, Serge Bojev said: “We were amazing today. We had prepared to play this way in practice and I am thrilled with the execution. The defence locked up our opponents and forced them into turnovers. This allowed us to create many fast breaks opportunities which played a big role in the win.”

On his team’s performance, guard for Teesside Lions, Zak Missouri said: “ It was a good performance. We started off a little slow but when we put it together in the second half, we looked great.  We came together as a team and got a much-needed win. That’s three in a row now. Hopefully we keep it going.”

On his time out with illness, guard for Teesside Lions, Brendan Patrick said: “ It feels great to be back. I was sick throughout the whole month of January and a little bit into February. It feels great to be back with the guys and to be out there playing.”

On the performance, Brendan said: “ We’re playing great basketball. Everyone’s being aggressive.”

Mehki Henry won the MVP of the game award with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals.
