The Poseidon: Through Deep Waters challenges the player to use agility to conquer one level, hitting multiple obstacles, while surviving ‘The Deep’.
The project is based on a film called ‘The Poseidon Adventure’. I took inspiration from the films direction and other media to produce a 2.5D survival puzzle platformer.
The aim of the game is to find and collect all survivors to escape the ship. The more survivors found and collected, the more points the player gains when completing the level. In addition to this, the player is also rewarded gold necklaces that are placed around the level.
I developed the game in Unreal Engine 4 and focused more on the player’s experience than the visuals. I developed two core mechanics that the player will have as abilities to traverse through the level, which are climbing and swimming. Throughout the development of this project, I have developed my skills and understanding of other parts of a game. These include visual scripting, Level Design, 3D models, Particle Effects, Textures, Sound Design and Interface Design.
When producing this game I used multiple pieces of software to develop both the aesthetics and gameplay of the game. Some of these methods included Unreal Engine 4, Adobe Photoshop, Maya and Substance Painter.

Biography
I am a highly creative Games Design student with great technical knowledge and abilities, particularly in Unreal Engine 4 and Maya. I have had 5 years’ experience in a team-based environment where I have demonstrated good communication and dedication towards the projects I have produced.
Software & Hardware Proficiencies
During University, I have learnt a lot about games development and gained skills using different software. These programs include Unreal Engine 4, Maya, Adobe Photoshop and Substance Painter.
Employment, Work Experience & Volunteering
I haven’t had any experience in the games industry, but I gained some experience in an office environment for two weeks. I worked as part of the permanent way team as a CAD Technician at Mott Macdonald in York. I learned basic CAD during the first week of my experience, as well as working individually to develop cross-sections within 3D models with basic flythroughs.
During University and College, I have volunteered for a variety of playtesting sessions with local companies. These companies included both R8 Games and Double Eleven.
Interests
I have many interests. I like to play a variety of games including genres such as shooters, action-adventure, platformers, indie games and puzzle games. I enjoy watching films and tv programs and reading books. I’d say my favourite genres would be sci-fi and fantasy. During University I have taken part in Archery and Volleyball, also being in the Teesside University teams. I am very interested in learning new parts of games development and new software. I love to develop level designs as a hobby, and hopefully work as a Level Designer in the future. As a break from work, I enjoy playing pool and snooker.
