Tuchel’s England start World Cup campaign

England will tonight (Friday, 21 March) begin their journey to the 2026 World Cup as they kick off their qualification campaign against Albania.

It’s the first of eight fixtures in Group K which should be straightforward for new coach Thomas Tuchel. Second up for the new England manager will be Latvia at Wembley, another fixture which the Three Lions should be expecting to win comfortably.

While not underestimating the Three Lions’ upcoming opponents, it is clear there are bigger challenges waiting should England qualify for the World Cup.

Wales start their campaign tomorrow evening in Group J against Kazakhstan at Cardiff City Stadium,  in the first of their two qualifying games this month. In another game where the British side should be expected to win, manager Craig Bellamy will nevertheless be looking forward to the challenge, hoping to keep his unbeaten run going since being appointed last July. Wales will head to North Macedonia for their second match, in a more difficult game. The Dragons will be hoping Leeds United star Dan James can help take them to victory.

Scotland started their campaign last night with a 1-0 win away to Greece, courtesy of a Scott McTominay penalty.

Boro star Finn Azaz helped the Republic of Ireland come from behind with a headed equaliser in a 2-1 victory away to Bulgaria.
