A University building sustained storm damage as extreme winds ripped through Middlesbrough.
Cleveland Fire Brigade was called to Teesside University after reports of damage to roof sheets on the Student Life building, Campus Heart, on Friday morning.
Storm Eowyn caused widespread disruption across the country, with gusts over 100mph recorded.
Eyewitnesses to the incident at Teesside University said fire fighters responded immediately.
A crane was later seen as the roof was being assessed.
A Teesside University spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure, we immediately made the decision to cordon off a small area and close the main entrance to ensure the safety of our staff and students.
“The building remained open and accessible and no injuries were caused.
“Temporary repairs have been carried out to make the area safe and, once wind speeds have reduced, we anticipate a full inspection will be carried out on Monday.”
A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed teams had attended the incident at 9.46am on Southfield Road.
They added: “Two appliances were in attendance from Middlesbrough.
“Metal sheets on roof were dislodged by strong winds on top of building. Roof cladding removed and area made safe.”
The fire service was stood down at 2.07pm
