I conducted a short interview with Murat following a flight he took from Antalya to Ankara earlier today. The bird sounds were in the background during the interview, so I decided to include them at the start of the interview – not every day you get to hear Turkish birdsong on Teesside!
Going through a career change following nearly 20 years in the charity sector and prior to that the civil service. Most of my career has related to public engagement and involvement, particularly in relation to disability issues. Partly due to redundancy, and partly due to Covid-19 making it hard to gain employment I decided to take the opportunity to leave London, go to my family home, go back to university and gain new skills to enhance my career and potentially go in a new direction. I have been involved in social media since before it had that name – print fanzines and letter-based groups following bands, moving on to email groups and then websites in the early to mid-1990s. I then moved on to the social media platforms as they opened up, and now have around 4000 followers in the group attached to my website (linked below) and another 5000 more in a sister group (approx 10,000 total). In addition to the above I have been assisting a successful musician with management and production, tour organisation and merchandising for a number of years. My aims are to update my skills in media production, programming and web development so that I can either gain further contracts in relation to media or music, or go to work for a company to do web development, media production or coordination.
